about 1 day ago @sidfernando That would be nice, & they'd probably run right feature on somebody, somewhere; face it, not a lot of mainstream interest.

about 1 day ago Cont'd again...Arcadius didn't die b/c of drugs, inflated purses, or any other racing "issue." He died b/c he was a mortal being.

A Preakness memory lane

Published in Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred May edition.

In an oversized wash stall in a white-sided barn on a hill, an Irishman leaned into a chestnut colt and sprayed crisp, clear, well-fed water down and over the horse’s knees. Smoking, of course, the horseman fed the occasional cigarette to his equine companion – who didn’t seem to mind – and even let the horse grab the hose now and then.

Triumph and tragedy for Arcadius at Iroquois
Steeplechase News - By Joe Clancy - May 13, 2012

arcadiusphoto12They’re not supposed to end like this. Winner’s circle ceremonies are for the good in the sport, the triumphs, the back-slaps, the excitement, the joy. Saturday at Nashville, the aftermath was anything but happy as Arcadius died of an apparent aneurysm shortly after winning the Grade I Iroquois Steeplechase.

ST Handicappers: Iroquois and Willowdale
Steeplechase News - By Sean Clancy - May 11, 2012

Short fields at Nashville. Full fields at Willowdale. Strange how that works. Looks like some collusion in the big one, the Iroquois, an internal ST inquiry is underway. Last week, Joe picked four winners (Forgotten Man, Swimming River, Incomplete, Hold Your Fire) while Sean countered with four of his own (Forgotten Man, Swimming River, Incomplete, Grinding Speed). Kudos to Joe for hitting the cold trifecta in the opener at Great Meadow. As for the season, Sean still leads Joe 23-17.
